April Tuesday: It's Poetry Month Again

April Tuesday: It's Poetry Month Again

So poetry month is once again upon us. Last year, I posted a new poem every day in the month of April. This year, I’m aiming for a little less work and self indulgence, so while some of the poems will still be mine, a lot of work will come from other poets, too.

The main structural impulse this year is length—these poem will be short. Just a bite-size guy to start your day, which you can consider as much or as little as you like.

No Bono or Amanda Gorman.

If you want to check out more, I encourage the Academy of American Poets and The Poetry Foundation, which also features a number of good podcasts of conversations and recorded readings. To investigate something more tactile, I recommend Ugly Duckling Presse, an editorial collective and small press that publishes some of the most exciting work around, if you ask me.

If you’ve subscribed, the first installment will hit your inboxes later this afternoon. After that, poems will be delivered each morning. Happy reading, and remember:

Poetry is indispensable. If only I knew what for!
